Hi Elaina! I really liked your new website. I think it was great that you decided to go away from using weebly even though this would be the third time that you restarted this project (kuddos to you). I think the google site classroom works really well with what you are going for with your website! I especially liked with your page at the top the navigational tools and how when you click on tools it provides a scrolling list of the tools you are inputting onto your website. I liked with this as well that you can select the different functionalities within the tools such as quizzes, discussions, portfolio, etc. I think having your friend's insight regarding the different features to include on your website was a great way to gain an educators perspective on creating a great resource for any educator. One suggestion I would make is maybe instead of your name being in the top left corner placing the name/title of your professional development. This might be informative for an educator when visiting the site so they always are informed of what it is that they will be learning throughout the site. I also think it might be a cool auditory additive to have a vocaroo link or audio player on the welcome page so teachers will be able to listen to the background information instead of having to read the information. Overall, I think everything on your website looks great and I cannot wait to see the final product!! Great job!
Elaina, I am so happy to see that you switched to Google Sites! I am also using Google Sites for my MMP. I am using the site to organize my content and tools for a unit on the novel Maniac Magee. Initially, I started creating my project on wikispace but I felt that the format was limiting and not aesthetic. You will not regret switching to Google Sites. I've found that it is very intuitive and the tool already abides by the rules of design that we read about! Google Sites can be limiting when it comes to fonts and themes. Unfortunately, there are only a few themes to select from. There theme you chose is very clean and easy to read. What Google communities did you join?
Wow! Your site looks great. You made it super user-friendly, even including a page on how to get around your site. I am excited to see the headers you make. I think that will make your site even that much better. I am currently in the same boat as you finishing up screencasts for the tools. I uploaded a notes section on most of the tools if you want to take a look at it before you record your videos. Taking a look at the site and writing down a couple of notes before I record really helps me a lot!
So sorry you started over for the third time...but it looks like it paid off...it is looking great. I too stuck with google sites but from the get go since my project revolves around google apps I thought it was only fair to use theirs to build my site to "practice what I am preaching". I like your idea of separating by functions on your tools page, but I think that's a personal preference. I don't think it takes away from your site if you don't. This is a site I know my elementary teachers would love and the fact that it appears to that it is going to be both user friendly and informative is awesome. I know with my project I am running into tons of resources I want to add but I don't want to overload my site or overwhelm the viewer and I could see you falling under that same umbrella with all the tools you could proved but the list I see that you have chosen seems to be great. :)Lauren
